In May 2011, nearly 800 fourth-grade students from across Hunt County gathered at the county fairgrounds for an exciting two-day event—Hunt County Ag Day 2011. This event aimed to educate students about the importance of agriculture in their community through hands-on learning experiences. Bluebonnet RC&D is proud to have supported this event with a $500 Community Improvement Grant, as it was a huge success!
Event Day: The future of Hunt County Agriculture is looking very bright!
Students rotated through 10 interactive stations, each highlighting different aspects of agriculture, including horse care, water conservation, electrical safety, beef production, and cotton farming. In addition, they learned about the 4-H program and the role of grain farming in their area. Each station offered valuable lessons, giving students a better understanding of where their food comes from and the vital role agriculture plays in everyday life.
The event wouldn't have been possible without the support of the local community. Along with the grant from Bluebonnet RC&D, organizations like Heritage Land Bank provided backpacks, teacher incentives, and lunches for the volunteers. Atmos Energy donated $250 for supplies, and Farm Bureau of Hunt County even gave away bicycles in a fun student drawing held each day.
